The cost of care varies across the country a freedom of information request submitted by Which? has revealed.
The request, which covered local authorities in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, found that 11% of councils have set a maximum standard rate for personal care of more than £540 a week. In comparison, 36% of councils have a maximum rate of £434.
Important findings:
- 53% of councils have set their rates between £435 and £539
- the most expensive rate was £768 in Lewisham
- the cheapest rates were £357 in Blackburn and Darwen.
Richard Lloyd, executive director of Which?, said:
“Understanding the options available for long-term care can be a minefield, particularly with such huge variations in the funding available.”
