From April 2019 there will be a requirement for Making Tax Digital (MTD), which means it will be mandatory for all VAT registered entities with a turnover above £85,000 to file VAT returns through software which is HMRC MTD compliant.

Any businesses that are not yet compliant and still operating old desktop systems or manual records should act now to avoid a huge amount of costly and time-consuming work.

I am using an old version of desktop software – what do I need to do?

This will not be HMRC MTD compliant – so you will need to either upgrade your software to the latest version or convert to a cloud accounting software.

I am using excel or manual records – what do I need to do?

These will not be HMRC MTD compliant, so you will need to either transfer your records on to a cloud accounting software, or contact our Cloud Conversion team to discuss other possible options.

What are the benefits of moving to the cloud?

Cloud solutions are now often cheaper than desktop software and they also have many added benefits, saving time and effort – there is more information on these benefits here.

If you would like to discuss any of the above further, please contact our Cloud Conversion Manager Joanne Gilpin, or your usual BHP relationship manager.
