BHP celebrates overwhelming recognition from awards, surveys and more

The past 15 months have been very challenging for everyone. It is therefore amazing to have the dedication and outstanding work of our teams being recognised both locally and nationally in a variety of ways.

In the past few months, we’ve been absolutely overwhelmed by the number of accomplishments we’ve had as a business, including five amazing award wins, impressive rankings from two nationally recognised bodies, as well as some exciting nominations.

Our most recent recognition was when we were named the #2 accountancy firm to work for in the UK, and the 35th overall to work for across Yorkshire and the Humber, in the Best Companies survey 2021.

The Best Companies survey covers leading businesses across Britain and Northern Ireland to identify the UK’s best workplaces, with employees anonymously answering questions on criteria such as teamwork, wellbeing and corporate culture to decide the rankings.

This came hot off the heels of two nominations at the prestigious Yorkshire Accountancy Awards, which will be held on the 19 August at the New Dock Hall in Leeds.

Our first nomination was for the Tax Service Award, which celebrates accountancy firms in Yorkshire who’ve stood apart from the competition through their technical ability and innovation in delivering tax services to clients.

The second nomination was for Support Staff of the Year, which celebrates the region’s most dedicated support staff or team working in IT, HR and other areas.

We also can’t forget BHP Corporate Finance, who won Corporate Finance Advisory Team of the Year at Insider’s 2020 Yorkshire Dealmakers Awards after completing 26 advisory deals (with a combined deal value of around £180m) in the review period.

But this was far from BHP Corporate Finance’s only victory; they swept up in four different categories at Insider’s 2020 Sheffield City Region Dealmakers Awards.

This included the Deal of the Year (£10m+) award for leading on the investment in SCX Special Projects, which provide bespoke design and engineering solutions across a range of sectors including nuclear and aerospace, by Elysian Capital.

The highly complex acquisition involved navigating a maze of regulatory hurdles, which was made possible thanks to the dedication, knowledge and expertise of our partner David Forrest. His efforts earned him his second Dealmaker of the Year award.

BHP Corporate Finance also acted as the lead advisor on the management buyout of Nationwide Stainless to win the Mid-Market Deal of the Year (£2.5m to £10m) award.

These two deals make up the 25 overall transactions worked on in the qualifying year to March 2020 (including five acquisitions, seven buyouts, four development capital or finance restructurings and nine disposals), which helped earn BHP Corporate Finance the title of Corporate Finance Advisory Firm of the Year.

Lastly, but far from least, Experian Market IQ also named BHP Corporate Finance as Yorkshire and the Humber’s most active financial advisor during Q1 2021 in their latest regional review, after a grand start to the year advising on 11 different transactions.
