A new apprenticeship scheme has been launched in Northern Ireland for the information, communications and technology (ICT) sector.

The North West ICT Apprenticeship scheme will see local businesses in the north west recruit talented individuals to software development and IT infrastructure roles.

Successful applicants will also take part in a ‘boot camp’ to boost their skills for their host businesses and enhance their future employability.

Employment and Learning Minister Dr Stephen Farry said:

“The ICT sector is of critical importance to the growth of Northern Ireland and if we are to realise the sector’s full potential it is clear that more needs to be done to improve the match between the skills of those people in the workforce and the skills our employers need to help our companies grow.

“Building on the success of similar schemes, and the high quality of apprentices recruited, I believe we can offer industry an important alternative pathway to recruit passionate and talented individuals into the local IT industry.”
