In this week’s Meet the Team interview, we’ve been chatting to William Wright, Senior Manager in our Digital Finance team. Will joined BHP in 2021 and is based in our York office. Find out what he enjoys most about his work and what he likes to do in his spare time…
What attracted you to work for the firm?
BHP is a multi-office, multi-discipline firm. I am from Yorkshire and I liked the fact that this successful firm was based across the Yorkshire and Derbyshire region, while providing accounting support to clients across the country and overseas.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I enjoy the variety of the job. Each day is different and I like the fact that in our Digital Finance team, we cover a wide array of different work – from statutory accounts through to monthly reporting and daily support of our clients. The Digital Finance team is a great team to work in; there is a great inquisitive atmosphere and everyone is looking to learn and improve.
How has BHP helped you in your career so far?
BHP is always happy to help with my professional development, including leadership courses. The Partner group has also been keen to see me and the other guys in the team progress, and this has allowed me to rise through the ranks at BHP.
What do you do to unwind after a day in the office?
I enjoy spending time with my partner and my son, as well as watching reality TV – something I pretend to hate!
What do you enjoy doing outside work?
I have played the guitar for years, and currently have a band who meet up to practice in a barber shop.
What can you talk about for hours?
Playing guitar and guitar music, especially heavy metal and rock.
What do you prefer – a TV series, book or film?
I like them all, but books are my favourite. I particularly like reading anything by Stephen King.
If you weren’t working for BHP, what would be your dream job?
My dream job would be as a guitarist in a rock band or, alternatively, I’d like to be an author.
