It’s time to meet another member of our Tax team! Rebecca Nicholson joined BHP in our Sheffield office in June 2023, after working for several other firms in the South Yorkshire region. Find out more about Rebecca in our interview below.

What attracted you to work for the firm?

BHP has a great reputation for providing both excellent client service and an opportunity for its team to thrive, so when I heard that the firm was looking for someone to join the private client team, I knew it would be a great fit for me.

What does your day-to-day role involve?

As a senior manager, my time is split between providing Income, Capital Gains and Inheritance Tax advice to our individual and trust clients, and supporting the compliance team in managing their Self Assessment tax return portfolios.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

Working as a private client tax advisor can be about much more than just the numbers. I really enjoy getting to know clients, understanding what they want to achieve and advising them on how they can meet their goals as tax efficiently as possible.

If you could learn something new and money was no object, what would it be?

I’d love to learn to play the piano. I’m not sure my neighbours would be quite so enthusiastic about me practising my scales though!

What can you talk about for hours?

I can definitely talk about musical theatre for hours! I’m a keen musical theatre fan and have seen around 200 different shows over the years. I’m always looking forward to seeing a new show for the first time or re-watching an old favourite.

What might surprise people to learn about you?

I once went to Russia with a group of complete strangers. I really fancied doing something a bit different for my annual holiday, so when the chance came up to join the trip, I jumped at it! Nervous though I was before I went, I had a great time.

What do you prefer – a TV series, book or film? What are your favourites?

Either a TV series or a book – definitely something I can get my teeth into and usually a good drama. One of my favourite TV shows of recent years is Line of Duty, although I do also have a soft spot for the glitz and glamour of Strictly Come Dancing. One of my favourite books is The Stand by Stephen King. My well-read copy is over 1,400 pages long and I re-read it every two or three years.

Where is the best place you have ever visited and why?

I think my favourite holiday destination is probably Barcelona. It has all the history and buzz of a major city whilst being right by the coast – the perfect combination!
