Rachael Bidwell is a Healthcare Manager on our specialist healthcare team in Chesterfield. She joined BHP 18 years ago after completing her A levels. Read on to find out what Rachael enjoys most about her role at BHP and a bit more about her life outside of work.

What does your day-to-day role involve?

Every day is different. I manage a wide portfolio of healthcare clients, including GP practices, self-employed locum GPs, dental practices, and PCN limited companies. A typical day would involve reviewing accounts and income tax returns and liaising with clients regarding any queries we have. Most days also involve meeting with clients to finalise accounts and helping the team in terms of training assistants and providing support to other managers.

What do you enjoy most about working in Healthcare?

Definitely the people. We are quite a close team who all well work together. It’s great that we have a range of different personalities that makes day to day working really enjoyable. I do also enjoy the type of work we undertake in the Healthcare department; I started my career in audit so have experience in that department too.

What is your most proud achievement to date?

This is a tough one, but I think it’s juggling my home and working life. I have 5 children aged between 3 – 13 so it can sometimes be a challenge. I’d like to think I’m doing a good job with both aspects and that makes me proud.

Who or what motivates you to succeed professionally?

My family, especially my husband. We both work in the profession so there can sometimes be a bit of rivalry. Also, the partners in the healthcare department are really supportive.

What was your childhood nickname?

It was ‘Biddy’ but over time it’s evolved into ‘Bidders’ – particularly here in the office!

What are three things on your bucket list?

I would love to go to Australia to watch The Ashes and hopefully see an England victory.

Visiting India is also on my bucket list as I have never been to Asia.  I would love to experience the hustle and bustle of the big cities.

Go to Glastonbury – I’ve never been fortunate enough to go before but it’s something I want to do if I get the chance.

How do you unwind after a hectic day?

There’s nothing more I love than listening to a good e-book.  Once my kids are in bed, I get my headphones in and usually that’s me for the evening.

What song gets you onto the dance floor?

Anything Fleetwood Mac, particularly the Rumours era.

Which mobile app do you use first thing in the morning?

Believe it or not, I check my work emails. It gives me a good idea of how my working day will pan out and helps me mentally prepare my task list for the day.
