Meet Healthcare Partner Rachelle Kilpin. Rachelle has been with BHP for over 25 years and provides financial accountancy and tax advice to the healthcare sector. Read our interview below to find out more…
When did you join BHP?
This will show my age! I joined BHP in July 1998 so I had a big work anniversary last year.
Where did you grow up?
I am Sheffield born and bred. I chose not to go to university and instead started working at BHP straight after doing my A-Levels. For me, this was the best decision that I could have made. I started working and, with the support of BHP, continued to study while I worked and didn’t end up with any student debt!
What does your day-to-day role involve?
Every day is different and ranges from meetings with clients, reviewing accounts and tax compliance or advisory work, delivering webinars or training, supporting and developing members of the Healthcare team and other strategic projects.
I am also a member of the CSR Committee and so I am involved in supporting our local communities – the picture above is from a volunteering day that I took part in last year for Sheffield and Rotherham Wildlife Trust.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I love the variety that the role offers. I enjoy being able to support clients by providing information and advice to help them achieve their goals.
It is also very rewarding when you see team members that you have supported progress and achieve well deserved promotions.
What is your proudest moment in your career so far?
That’s a difficult one. There have been numerous proud moments throughout my career, including qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in 2003 and qualifying as a Chartered Tax Advisor in 2007. But my proudest moment has to be my promotion to Partner in 2019.
How has BHP helped you in your career so far?
At BHP you’re encouraged to be in charge of your own destiny and there are many opportunities for people to progress while utilising your own skillsets. I started off my career in the Audit and Accounts team and, nine years in, decided that audit wasn’t for me. I was given the opportunity to join the Tax team, which was great as it allowed me to become dual qualified. Importantly for healthcare clients, it means that I have a well-rounded knowledge of accounting and tax matters.
What do you prefer – a TV series, book, or film? What are your favourites?
That’s a tricky one! It just depends on what I have hooked onto at the particular point in time.
I like reading but I tend to only find time for it when sat on a beach. I also enjoy a good series on Netflix to binge watch and have recently been watching the various Harlan Corben series.
Where is your dream destination?
I have recently been on honeymoon to the Maldives, which was definitely high up on the list! While I do love a relaxing beach holiday, I also enjoy weekend city breaks. I’ve never been to Italy, so Venice and Rome are places that I want to visit.
If you weren’t working for BHP, what would be your dream job?
After having my first child, I wished I could be a midwife to share the many magical moments of life being born – not sure I could cope though!
