Jane Marshall is one of nine highly respected business people and community leaders to be named as Deputy Lieutenants of The County of South Yorkshire.
The role involves supporting and deputising for Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of South Yorkshire, Andrew Coombe. Duties include attending Royal visits to the county, representing the Lieutenancy at ceremonial events such as Remembrance Day and citizenship ceremonies, as well as assisting the Lord-Lieutenant with a wide range of other obligations. Appointment to the position is by the Lord-Lieutenant, subject only to The Queen, not disapproving of the granting of their commission.
Deputy Lieutenants are entitled to use the post nominal letter DL and are commissioned for finite periods – usually up until their 75th birthday.
Jane is a partner and Head of Charities and Not-For-Profit at chartered accountants BHP. Other respected individuals to join her in the role include Imam Sheikh Mohammad, Sughra Begum, Professor Hilary Chapman, Mark Dransfield, John Marren, Akeela Mohammed, Desmond Smith and Charles Warde-Aldam.
HM Lord-Lieutenant, Andrew Coombe said: “I am delighted to have been able to select such a diverse group of people to become Deputy Lieutenants. In the past two years, the Lieutenancy has worked hard to extend its reach and is now involved throughout the county in an ever-expanding range of representative activities, ranging from school and community group events to the recent commemorations concerning The First World War.
“These people are already outstanding servants of South Yorkshire. In their different fields they have contributed to making life better for the rest of us and, as Deputy Lieutenants, will continue to do so.”
