Martin Athey

What is your role at BHP/Translink?

I am a Partner at Translink and lead our Transaction Services team, which provides Financial and Tax Due Diligence and SPA Advisory services. I am an experienced corporate financier, typically advising on deals in the £5m to £100m valuation range for a variety of clients, including corporate acquirors, private equity, banks, and debt funds.

I am a qualified Chartered Accountant with around 25 years of experience working in accountancy practices. I have specialised in the transactional field since 2006, working on well over 200 deals to date. I previously led the Yorkshire and North East due diligence team at an international accountancy firm before joining Translink/BHP in 2019.

Quality service on a timely basis, pragmatic approach, and building relationships.

What keeps you motivated?

Achieving great results for my clients, developing the team, and building a high-quality offering.

What advice would you give trainees starting out?

Technical knowledge is important, but also try to maximise opportunities that arise to broaden your experience.

What is your favourite thing to do at the weekend?

Sport dominates weekends, be it coaching junior football or watching Bradford City FC.
