How have you found your first few weeks at BHP?

I have really enjoyed my first few weeks and have been made to feel welcome since day one. Everyone has been happy to answer any questions I’ve had, and I’ve enjoyed working in the new Sheffield office.

What attracted you to your role and BHP?

I was looking to build my knowledge of Personal Tax, especially areas like Inheritance Tax and Capital Gains Tax, which I hadn’t had much exposure to in my previous role. The culture at BHP, in addition to the opportunity to continue using my Global Mobility experience while developing my technical knowledge, were the main reasons I was interested in BHP.

What does your role involve day-to-day?

I prepare tax advice for individuals and for companies with employees who have an international element to their employment. I’m also involved in the personal tax compliance process for private individuals and company employees who are receiving tax support whilst on assignment/working internationally.

What do you enjoy most about working in International Private Client Tax?

I enjoy that I get to work with overseas advisors and see more than just the UK tax system.

What’s one thing you’re looking forward to learning more about?

I’m looking forward to deepening my understanding of Inheritance and Capital Gains Tax.

What’s been your highlight so far?

There are too many highlights to mention, but I have enjoyed getting stuck in and being able to lead on work from day one the most.

About you

What event stands out as the most memorable in your family?

When I was a child, my father took up the position of vet for the Falkland Islands government, and my family relocated down there for a couple of years. The nature was amazing and I can remember visiting my dad’s surgery and a penguin sitting in a box in the corner of the room.

Where did you spend the most unforgettable holiday of your life?

It’s hard to choose one destination; however, I will never forget visiting the joint security area between North and South Korea and standing in what is officially North Korea in the ‘blue huts’ where the South and North have their meetings.

What might surprise people to learn about you?

I have a pet snake and also three pet tarantulas.
