BHP, one of the leading accountancy firms in the North, has bolstered its Commercial Finance capabilities with the appointment of Damian Hughes, a seasoned Yorkshire financier.
The move underscores BHP’s commitment to supporting SMEs in an increasingly challenging funding environment and follows the service’s relaunch in 2024.
The team, led by Dan Summerfield, aims to provide clients across various sectors with expert guidance and practical solutions by helping secure funding packages that mean businesses can thrive. Damian joins BHP after an impressive 22-years at HSBC, most recently as a Senior Commercial Manager. In this role, he oversaw a diverse portfolio of clients and significant deals across Yorkshire. At BHP, Damian will work closely with Dan and the Professional Banking and Finance team, leveraging his expertise to support clients across the firm’s five offices.
Hamish Morrison, Joint CEO at BHP, said: “At BHP, our priority is to ensure that our clients receive the best possible advice, particularly in those business-critical areas like funding. With changes in the market and economy, securing capital can be challenging, and we’re thrilled to be growing our commercial finance team with the addition of Damian to our team. His wealth of experience will be invaluable to our clients, helping them achieve their business ambitions.”
Commenting on his new role, Damian Hughes said: “I’m delighted to join BHP as its Commercial Finance service looks to expand to meet demand within the market. I look forward to working with Dan and colleagues from across the firm to provide guidance and find the right solutions for clients which can unlock their potential.”
Damian’s appointment is part of BHP’s broader growth strategy. The firm recently welcomed eight new starters so far in 2025, reflecting its ongoing commitment to investing in top talent and enhancing its service offerings in order to support its clients across the country.
