Building on the success of its Primary Care Development programme, the Royal College of GPs will begin working with GP practices from July 2024 to support the delivery of NHS England’s General Practice Improvement Programme (GPIP).
The award of the one-year contract to RCGP will see hundreds of GP practices benefit from hands-on support from the RCGP team including in-person sessions and a tailored analysis of practice demand and capacity. The team will provide on-site support from experienced and skilled facilitators as well as group-based learning sessions designed to facilitate peer to peer learning and sharing experiences across practices.
RCGP have said they aim to work with practices to ‘implement supportive strategies and realise benefits quickly’, with the package of support being delivered over a timeframe of 4-6 months.
General Practice Improvement Programme
The overall objectives of the GPIP are to support practices and PCNs ‘to move to the modern general practice model’ to:
- improve how patients access the practice
- improve assessment and streaming to the appropriate response
- make full use of a multi-professional team
- improve patient experience, and
- build in-house capability to sustain improvement
Places for 2024/25 are limited and nominations are being managed via ICBs to increase links to local support. Sessions begin in July and interested practices should contact their ICB, or email england.pctgpip@nhs.net for further information.
