How long have you worked at BHP?

I recently joined the personal tax team at BHP in September 2024, bringing over two and a half years of experience in the field.

What does your day-to-day role involve?

No two days are the same when working in tax. It’s a highly versatile field that continually presents new challenges, keeping me engaged and on my toes. I enjoy the variety my role offers!

As a tax trainee, my role involves preparing and submitting tax returns for a diverse portfolio of clients – ranging from individuals and businesses to trusts, to ensure accuracy and compliance with current tax legislation. This involves meeting with clients to gather information, reviewing and analysing financial documents, carrying out detailed tax computations, and advising clients on optimising their tax positions.

Each case is unique due to each client’s varying financial circumstances and needs, which makes the work both challenging and rewarding. The most important part of my role is effective communication with clients. I strive to explain complex tax matters clearly to clients, ensuring they feel informed and confident about their tax affairs – especially important given the frequent changes in legislation, government policies and economic trends.

What do you enjoy most about working in tax?

I’m really enjoying being part of the personal tax team at BHP! The team has been incredibly welcoming, and the supportive culture has made it easy to settle in quickly. Everyone is approachable, which has created an environment where I feel comfortable asking questions and learning from others.

What is the achievement you’re most proud of?

I’m most proud of completing my MSc in Management during the COVID-19 pandemic. The entire programme was conducted online, presenting its own challenges, but it taught me the importance of resilience and adaptability. Navigating a virtual learning environment requires strong self-discipline and effective time management. As a new member of the personal tax team at BHP, I’m excited to apply the knowledge and insights I gained during my studies to support our clients and contribute to the team’s success.

Who or what motivates you to succeed professionally?

My father is a significant source of motivation for me professionally. Growing up, I witnessed the sacrifices he made and the pride he took in his work, which instilled in me the value of hard work and commitment. His example drives me to strive for excellence in my own career.

What advice would you give to trainees starting out?

Ask Questions!! Don’t hesitate to ask for clarification if you are uncertain about something.

Where did you spend the most unforgettable holiday of your life?

The most unforgettable holiday was a girls’ trip to Innsbruck, Austria, with my sisters and cousins. The trip’s highlight was reaching the top of Innsbruck via the Nordkette cable car. We were surrounded by breath-taking views of the city and the snow-covered peaks. Once we reached the top, we had the best time having snowball fights, creating memories we’ll cherish forever.

What are three things on your bucket list?
  • Go on a safari in Africa.
  • Take a hot air balloon ride over Cappadocia, Turkey.
  • Witness the cherry blossoms in Japan.
Which physical activity do you enjoy the most, and why?

I enjoy Pilates Reformer because it provides a full-body workout that builds strength and flexibility while helping me clear my mind and alleviate stress.
