Manager Molly Irons joined BHP and the charities team in 2021. Find out what she enjoys most about her work and what she likes to do in her spare time.

When did you join BHP?

I started at BHP in 2021 amidst the COVID pandemic, which made for quite an interesting experience. It took about six months before I met any colleagues in person! After spending seven years with my previous company, I was eager to take on a new challenge.

What attracted you to the firm?

I was attracted to BHP because of its strong reputation as an employer and the promising career opportunities it offered.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

Personally, I believe in dedicating time to mentoring staff to enhance both their technical and interpersonal skills. I also enjoy engaging with new and existing team members and fostering strong client relationships.

Have you had any other (non-accounting) jobs before BHP? If so, what was your favourite and why?

I began my career in accounting at 18, so the only other job I had prior was a part-time waitressing position while I was in college.

Where did you grow up/go to school/university?

I was raised in Huddersfield and have lived here my entire life. Instead of attending university, I began working at an accountancy firm at 18, where I first pursued my AAT qualification and later completed my ACA.

What do you do to unwind after a day in the office?

After a challenging day at work, I enjoy going for walks with my partner and playing netball. These activities help me relax and switch off from work.

What do you enjoy doing outside work?

Outside of work, I like playing netball and spending time socialising with my family and friends.

What did you want to be when you were growing up?

As a child, I always dreamed of becoming a teacher, particularly a PE teacher, because of my passion for sports in college. However, I decided that university wasn’t the right path for me. Since I had a strong fondness for math at school, I decided to pursue accountancy instead, and here I am, ten years later.

Where is the best place you have ever visited, and why?

I absolutely love Italy. I’ve been there many times, and it’s always stunning, with so much to explore
