Financial planning is all about helping people feel confident about their future. On World Financial Planning Day, we’re celebrating the people who make that possible. In this edition of Meet the Team, get to know Joe Fowler, whose expertise and passion support clients through the milestones that matter most.

What does your day-to-day role involve?

As a Trainee Financial Planner, I assist with preparing and following up on client meetings. A lot of my time is spent attending the meetings alongside the Financial Planners and writing reports that review the client’s financial plans, assess the progress towards their goals or highlight possible improvements.

What do you enjoy most about working in Financial Planning?

I really enjoy being part of such a supportive team. Everyone’s open to sharing ideas, and I’ve learned a lot just by working alongside the more experienced Planners.

What is the achievement you’re most proud of?

The achievement I’m most proud of is obtaining qualifications as both an ACA Chartered Accountant and a Financial Planner – soon to be Chartered.

What aspirations do you have at BHP?

My main goal at BHP is to become the best Chartered Financial Planner I can be – someone who’s knowledgeable, trusted and able to support a wide range of clients with different needs.

What advice would you give to trainees starting out?

Make the most of every opportunity to learn from the people around you. There’s so much knowledge and experience across the teams here at BHP, so don’t be afraid to ask questions, and don’t worry about not knowing everything straight away.

Where did you spend the most unforgettable holiday of your life?

I’d say my most unforgettable holiday was a recent trip to India for a friend’s wedding. Experiencing the vibrant celebrations and rich culture was incredible. Before the wedding, I spent time in Sri Lanka – a complete change of pace. I went on safari and enjoyed some downtime in the tropical climate.

What’s your favourite food/cuisine?

Italian food is definitely my favourite cuisine. One of my favourite places to eat is Vero Gusto, and my favourite dish is their Eliconi al Ragù.

What is your favourite thing to do at the weekend?

On weekends, I really enjoy going to watch Sheffield Wednesday with a couple of my friends (although not so much this season).  We usually head out for a few drinks afterwards, which makes for a relaxed and enjoyable weekend, regardless of the result.
