Frankie Hudson is a recruitment coordinator at BHP and has been with the company for over two years. In our latest ‘Meet the Team’ blogs, read on to find out what Frankie enjoys most about her role at BHP and a bit more about her life outside of work.
What does your day-to-day role involve?
I review new applications for a variety of roles, arrange interviews, make job offers and deal with a range of recruitment queries. I spend a lot of my time interviewing candidates for our early careers schemes, and liaise with a wide variety of people, including applicants, recruitment agencies and hiring managers. Depending on the time of year, I also attend a lot of career fairs and get to talk to potential applicants about the early career opportunities we offer.
What do you enjoy most about working in recruitment?
Making job offers – it’s really rewarding when all the hard work pays off and you get to give someone the good news, especially when they’re really excited about the role!
What was your favourite toy as a child?
My favourite toy was a teeny tiny teddy bear called Rose, she was about an inch tall and I took her EVERYWHERE. This lead to me collecting and then making miniature teddy bears as a kid. I ended up with well over 100 in total, but Rose was always the favourite.
What’s your favourite time of year?
Summer – I enjoy the outdoors, but I’m a wuss in the cold. In the summer, I love to garden and hike. I grew up by the sea in Aotearoa New Zealand, and will take any opportunity to visit a beach in the sun.
What was the last book you read?
“The Tatami Galaxy” by Tomihiko Morimi (fiction), which I quite enjoyed. Before that, I read “Feijoa” by Kate Evans (non-fiction), which details the history of the feijoa fruit, both from a scientific and cultural point of view. I don’t often read non-fiction, but anything feijoa-related has a lot of nostalgia for me. It’s my favourite fruit, and it grows really well in New Zealand but almost nowhere else in the UK. It never occurred to me when moving over here that I’d be unable to get them in the UK!
What might surprise people to learn about you?
Two of my biggest hobbies are pole dancing and aerial silks. I first started pole dancing around 7-8 years ago, then soon after started silks, which quickly took over as my favourite hobby. After a very long break, I’ve recently started pole dancing again (alongside silks) and have really enjoyed getting back into it.
What is your favourite thing to do at the weekend?
Dance and train at my local dance and aerial studio. I started taking dance classes in January last year, and it’s my favourite way to spend a Saturday morning! I’m still no professional, but it’s so much fun and I’ve really enjoyed seeing the progress I’ve made over the past year. A lot of the movements are transferrable from pole and silks, but I find it so much more challenging to dance without a piece of equipment to climb/hide behind (I’m much more comfortable in the air than on the ground!). I then tend to train silks on a Sunday afternoon, or if the weather’s nice, I’ll work on the garden.
