In our latest Meet the Team interview, we found out more about Felix Lee, Senior Manager in our Audit team in Leeds

When did you join BHP?

I joined BHP in October 2021.

What attracted to you to work for the firm?

I had previously heard of BHP’s reputation in the market, and of the company values which resonated with my own. I then had various conversations with audit partners across the firm and it was clear that they also had the same values. I was excited by the direction that BHP is going in and the plans that they have for the future, as well as how I could be a part of that growth and future development.

What does a typical day at work look like for you?

I wouldn’t say that there is a typical day, however weeks usually include helping to manage the team, whether that’s allocating people to jobs, answering questions and ad hoc queries, performance management or dealing with client relationships by keeping in regular contact, updating them on work progress and feeding back on any findings. I have also been given the opportunity to get involved in a number of internal projects to help shape the BHP audit methodology and deliver training to the team.

How has BHP helped you in your career so far?

BHP has helped me to step out of the day to day and get more involved in internal projects and management, which will be helpful in my ambition to progress within the firm. I have also been well supported during my time and everyone is genuinely happy to help.

What are your highlights and key achievements?

I think my key achievements at BHP include helping with the implementation of our new audit software as well as preparing and delivering training on our new methodology. This took quite a bit of work and there were a few conflicting opinions in certain areas that we needed to reach a consensus on.

What or who inspires you at work?

I am inspired and driven at work by my desire to provide a comfortable life for my family and to be able to spend quality time together doing the kind of things I was fortunate to do growing up.

What advice would you give to someone thinking about applying for a role at BHP?

I would get in touch with the firm and speak to the people that work here. If you are in two minds, the people will definitely put your mind at ease and would be happy to answer any questions you may have. There are plenty of opportunities, so now is the right time to join!

What do you enjoy doing outside of working?

I enjoy spending time with my family – I have a young daughter who is a handful! I also enjoy watching football (my playing career is all but over these days) and playing golf.

What do you prefer? A TV series or a film? And which genre do you prefer?

I prefer a TV series that I can binge watch. I tend to stick to thrillers, comedy or crime dramas.

What is your favourite type of cuisine and why?

I love most types of Asian inspired cuisine. I like the variety and the flavours and also enjoy trying to cook them myself at home

What type of holiday do you prefer? Beach, active or city break?

My favourite holidays are winter snowboarding holidays although my wife and I have been doing more city breaks recently (as it’s easier to get the grandparents to look after our daughter). One city we have visited recently is Lisbon and I would highly recommend it!

If you weren’t in your current role, what would be your dream job?

I think my dream job would be professional golfer – despite the lack of talent! They get to travel to some great places and play some brilliant courses.
