What is your role at BHP?
I am a Partner within the corporate audit department, having joined 30 years ago as a manager from KPMG and progressed to partner eight years ago. Mixed client bases of mainly owner-managed entities across a wide business sector, including retail, property, recruitment, social care, manufacturing, freight forwarding, haulage and engineering.
What are you most passionate about?
Helping both staff and clients develop to their maximum potential, seeing both clients grow and helping them across that time period either directly or with the help of other BHP service lines, similarly with staff to see them grow not only in their technical knowledge but in their own confidence and personal development.
What keeps you motivated?
The great team I work with and the enjoyment from seeing clients and staff grow and succeed.
What advice would you give trainees starting out?
Find out as much as you can about how the client’s business works and the challenges it has, not just directly associated with the audit or accounts section you are working on – be professionally nosey!!
The same applies to understanding how BHP works and what other team members do, not only in client-facing service lines but also in the support staff that helps make it all happen.
What is your favourite thing to do at the weekend?
Going out for breakfast on a Saturday morning and, where possible, spending some time experimenting with cooking new recipes, both savoury and sweet.
